SUBCLASS 864 CONTRIBUTORY AGED PARENT PERMANENT VISA

What is a Contributory Aged Parent Permanent Visa (Subclass 864)?
The Contributory Aged Parent Permanent Visa (Subclass 864) allows older parents to live permanently in Australia if they have a child who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen who is settled in Australia. Applicants must be sponsored by a child or a spouse of one of their child.

This is a permanent residence visa. It lets you and your family to:

  • Enjoy living in Australia indefinitely
  • Work and study in Australia
  • Enrol in the Australian Healthcare Program (commonly known as Medicare)
  • Apply for Australian citizenship (when you become eligible)
  • To sponsor eligible relatives for a permanent residence visa
  • Travel to and from Australia within 5 years from the date the visa is granted

To be able to apply for this visa, you either hold a Contributory Aged Parent Temporary Visa (Subclass 884), or you:

  • Are in Australia
  • Are sponsored by a child who is:

– An Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizens
– Settled in Australia for two years

  • Meet the balance-of-family test with:

– At least half of your children are living in Australia as permanent residents, or
– More of your children are living in Australia as permanent residents than in any other country

For applicant who holds a Contributory Aged Parent Temporary visa (Subclass 884):
The first instalment (Application fee)
Main applicant: AUD $ 325
Family members (18 years old and above): AUD $ 165
Dependent child (under 18): AUD $ 80 

The second instalment (Visa fee)
Main applicant: AUD $ 19,420
Family members (18 years old and above): AUD $ 19,420
Dependent child (under 18): AUD $ 2,095    

For Contributory Aged Parent Permanent Visa (Subclass 864) direct applicant:
The first instalment (Application fee)
Main applicant: AUD $ 3,695
Family members (18 years old and above): AUD $ 1,845
Dependent child (under 18): AUD $ 925 

The second instalment (Visa fee)
Main applicant: AUD $ 43,600
Family members (18 years old and above): AUD $ 43,600
Dependent child (under 18): AUD $ 2,095 

An individual or organization must provide you with an assurance of support. They can be your sponsor or another person. Up to three people can agree to give you a joint assurance of support. An assurance of support is a legal commitment to provide you with financial support so that you do not have to rely on social security payments. The assurance covers you and any family members included in your application.

An assurer must:

  • Give you financial assistance for ten years
  • Lodge a bond for each applicant:

–  Main Applicant: AUD $ 10,000
–  Family members (18 years old and above): AUD $ 4,000
–  The bond will be held for ten years from the date of the visa is granted
